Greenlink developers disappointed and surprised with Ofgem’s ‘minded to’ decision

6 March 2015 - Element Power the renewable energy developer behind the Greenlink interconnector project, today expressed their surprise and disappointment with Ofgem’s minded to position in respect of their Greenlink interconnector project between GB and Ireland.

Mike O’Neill, CEO of Element Power stated, “We acknowledge that this is by no means a final decision by Ofgem but rather a preliminary assessment that is subject to consultation. However, we believe the decision ignores the overall benefit that Greenlink will deliver to consumers as a whole and particularly in Ireland. We also believe that key aspects of the analysis undertaken on behalf of Ofgem is open to question. Element Power will continue to work with Ofgem, DECC, CER, DCENR and other European stakeholders to demonstrate that a positive case exists for Greenlink as a strategic piece of infrastructure which enhances connectivity to the periphery of Europe, increases consumer welfare and provides access to Ireland’s rich renewable resources. We are confident that through this consultation process Ofgem will be able to evaluate the broader case for Greenlink and reassess its analysis and preliminary decision."
